Hurt at a Hollywood Construction Site?
A fall, falling load, or failed tool can leave you unable to work and unsure who will pay for care. Miller & Jacobs reviews construction injuries in Hollywood to identify who controlled the work, preserve the proof, and assess whether a separate injury claim may apply alongside workers’ compensation.

What Matters First
A covered worker may have access to medical care and part of lost wages through workers’ compensation. A civil injury claim depends on a separate review of fault and immunity. Start both reviews with the incident facts, not a promise that every company at the site can be sued.
✚
Explain the task and every symptom to your provider. Save work restrictions, treatment plans, and bills. A short work note may miss the lifting or overhead tasks your trade requires.
$
Keep pay stubs, overtime records, and messages about missed shifts. Future earnings may matter if you can no longer do the same work. For lasting care and help at home, our Hollywood catastrophic injury guidance explains useful records and family decisions.
◈
Save safe-to-take photos, witness contacts, and equipment labels. Tell us if the site has changed. Do not enter a closed site or move damaged equipment yourself.

free, confidential consultation.Responsibility Is a Separate Question
Florida’s workers’ compensation rules may protect your employer and some other businesses on the same project from a civil lawsuit. The contractor chain, required coverage, and each company’s role matter. Narrow exceptions require a close review of the facts.
A delivery driver, equipment maker, or unrelated business may raise a different question. We examine what each party did and whether the law permits a claim. A safety violation alone does not answer that question.
Read Florida’s contractor and subcontractor rules →Look Beyond the Company Name
–
Contracts, work orders, and subcontractor agreements
–
Insurance certificates and compensation claim details
–
Messages showing who assigned or supervised the task
–
Rental, delivery, repair, and equipment ownership records
–
Pay records and the names of the crews at the site
Two Routes With Different Rules
Workers’ compensation generally does not require proof that the employer was careless. A valid third-party claim does require proof of legal responsibility. Neither route is automatic, and payment through one can affect the other.
✚
Workers’ Compensation
For a covered employee, the system may pay for authorized medical care and qualifying disability benefits. Work status, pay, and medical findings affect the benefits. It does not pay damages for pain and suffering.
–
Authorized care for the covered injury
–
Qualifying wage-loss benefits
–
Benefits for lasting impairment in eligible cases
–
A separate process for disputed benefits
⚖
Civil Injury Claim
If a valid claim exists, it may seek medical costs, lost income, reduced earning ability, and pain and suffering. The work is to connect those losses to reliable proof. Being badly hurt does not, by itself, establish fault.
–
Supported past and future medical needs
–
Lost pay and reduced earning ability
–
Pain and changes to daily life
–
Other losses the facts and law support
Florida allows benefits and a valid third-party action to proceed together. The carrier may have reimbursement rights. Settlement decisions should account for both. Florida Statute 440.39 explains this relationship.
Read the third-party recovery statute →Start With What You Know
Tell us where you were hurt, which task was underway, and what care you have received. You do not need to track down every contract before calling.
The Life Beyond the Worksite
A shoulder injury can stop more than a work shift. It can make driving, lifting a child, or sleeping difficult. A back injury may leave you weighing a return to the trade against the pain it causes.
We ask how the injury affects your actual days. Treatment records, work demands, and family needs help show that impact without turning your life into a checklist.
Recovery should account for the work you did and the life you want to return to.
Getting to care when driving or walking is difficult
Managing household bills during time away from work
Understanding whether your trade still fits your restrictions
Recording the help you now need at home
Planning for treatment and limits that may last
Steps You Can Take Now
Get needed medical care and report a work injury promptly. Records help even when you do not yet know which claim applies.
✚
Tell the provider how you were hurt and what now hurts. Keep the discharge papers and any work limits.
✓
Employees generally have 30 days to notify the employer, with exceptions. Report promptly and keep a copy. Read Florida’s injury-notice rule.
⌕
Save labels, serial numbers, photos, and witness contacts if you can do so safely. Note which company took the equipment away.
$
Save texts about assignments, schedules, pay, and restrictions. A worksite may involve several crews with different roles.
✓
A benefits form and a full settlement release do different things. Get the terms explained before you sign away a claim.
Match the Proof to the Incident
The cause of the injury guides the investigation. We look for the task, hazard, equipment, and people involved. These examples are starting points, not findings that anyone was at fault.
Work at height
Who supplied the access equipment? Who inspected it? Photos, setup records, and the work assignment may help.
Materials and loads
Delivery timing, lift records, crew instructions, and video may show who controlled the load and the area below it.
Equipment condition
Keep the model and rental information. Prior repairs, warnings, and the item itself may matter to a defect claim.
Power and heat
The work plan, utility information, chemical records, and equipment condition may help explain the event.
Structural work
Plans, inspections, site photos, and the sequence of the work may be important. Public permits are only part of the record.
Access and vehicles
Routes, barriers, signs, and video may matter. If the injury arose from a vehicle collision, our Hollywood truck accident guidance may also help.

How the Review Moves Forward
The review connects the work relationship, physical evidence, and injury losses. It also checks notice dates and any decisions that could affect your rights.
Step One
Start with the address, date, task, companies present, treatment, and work status.
Step Two
Review coverage and the contractor chain before deciding whether a third-party claim is available.
Step Three
Seek site and equipment records. Gather medical restrictions, lost-pay details, and supported future needs.
Step Four
Address defenses and present the losses. Prepare for litigation when the facts and legal route call for it.

Hollywood Records and Local Access
The City of Hollywood Building Division provides permit, inspection, and licensed-contractor resources. These may help identify the permitted work. They do not establish who directed the task that caused your injury.
For work in an occupied condo, store, or other property, save the exact spot and any access instructions. A public walkway and an active work area can raise different questions. Our Hollywood premises liability page explains the property side. Miller & Jacobs serves Hollywood from its Pompano Beach headquarters.
